DIY Christmas mugs

You will need:

  • Plain mugs
  • Ceramic paint
  • Stencils
  • Glue stick
  • Cotton buds or a paint brush
  • Pencil

Step by step:

  1. Find a Christmassy stencil you like – the simpler the shape the better.
  2. Cut out your stencil, and stick it to your mug – remember to cut out the middle if you are filling in the shape or the outside if you are painting the outline.
  3. Use a cotton bud to dot on the paint, starting with dense coverage and spreading your dots out as you get further away from the stencil. You may want to use a new cotton bud every now and then, as they become blunted. Alternatively, you can draw around the stencil with a pencil and fill in the shape with a paintbrush.
  4. Leave to dry with the stencil on.
  5. Remove the stencil. It is best to ensure that your design is completely dry before doing this.
  6. Bake, according to the instructions for your paint. This will seal the design.
  7. Pour yourself a well-deserved cuppa to celebrate your artistry.
